Lucena City is a highly-urbanized city in CALABARZON; it serves as the capital of Quezon province.

Economic activities are concentrated in the poblacion, which is also the city’s central business district. Nevertheless, satellite commercial areas spilled to the nearby towns and barangays. Industrial and manufacturing activities are other economic contributors.

A growing number of visitors go to Lucena City throughout the years because of the events held at the Quezon Convention Center in the mid-2000s and nowadays, because of the natural attractions and the festivals.

Specifically, Pasayahan sa Lucena is the main crowd-drawer. The festival depicts the relationships between man and nature as well as the way of life of the locals. Outlandish costumes and symbolic floats that rival that of Mardi Gras are witnessed by the spectators every year. It is actually a weeklong tourist attraction which culminates on the 30th of May.

Another well-loved festival by both the locals and onlookers is the Chami Festival. Chami is a local pansit delicacy. Every year, the local government runs a contest to find the best-tasting chami in Lucena. Bilaos of chami lined up Quezon Avenue, Lucena City’s main road. After the cooking fest, the cooked chami is distributed among the festival goers for free.
