A Look Into Mandaue’s Newest Attraction – Gatewalk Central
Mandaue city is home to very distinct yet very few attractions considering its land area. For one, about 27% of its total land area is devoted to industrial and residential developments while only less than 1% is devoted to parks. Thus, introducing man-made attractions to the place particularly those that will highlight the lifestyle of the Mandauenons is a welcome idea.
Ayala Land Inc. (ALI) partnered with AboitizLand, which pioneered property concepts in Cebu, to develop an integrated mixed-use development in Mandaue known as Gatewalk Central.
Located in Brgy. Subangdaku, Gatewalk Central will be accessible via the national roads namely Lopez Jaena St., M. Logarta St. and Ouano Avenue. All of these roads are only 11 to 17 minutes away from Amaia Steps Mandaue so that the residents can frequent the central. High traffic of people is expected once Gatewalk Central is fully operational mainly due to its location and ease of access through these national roads.
What Gatewalk Central entails
Gatewalk Central is dubbed as Mandaue’s dynamic city. Aside from having an Ayala Mall, the 17.5-hectare estate will include residential areas, office buildings, retail sections, and family-friendly parks. These are not your typical recreational facilities because these districts – Entry Boulevard, Esplanade, Gatewalk Park, Gatewalk Plaza, Garden District, and Gatewalk Avenue – will have their own character and experience.
The developers envision a sustainable estate. Twenty percent of the development will be comprised of green and open spaces much like Cebu Business Park and Cebu IT Park. Entry Boulevard will be your access point to the experiential hub. It is named as such because it will feature interactive public artworks as well as socio-cultural areas for specific activities.
The park, plaza, district, and avenue will cater to unique experiences. The park is the primary recreational green space. It is where the guests can get together to unwind or partake in small events such as impromptu performances and mini concerts. This space will be designed to have an accommodating ambiance. The plaza is the place for bigger and brighter celebrations. This will be the regular venue for entertainment.
Another green space is the Garden District. This serves as the transition between the indoors and the outdoors. This will provide seamless indoor/outdoor transitions that bring high style to the great outdoors. There will be a seating area, lawn, street space but with continuous shade on both sides provided by tree canopy.
The avenue is the dining and retail area that is equipped with repurposed shipping containers. These are boutique spaces that will mainly cater to the retail needs of small and startup businesses in Mandaue, so expect to see more local brands in this area.
The main feature, however, is the 30-meter wide, tree-lined, pedestrian-only street called the Esplanade. It anchors the other five areas seamlessly.
Indeed, it will be a master-planned estate with sustainability philosophy at its core.
Gatewalk Central marries business with lifestyle and yet within an eco-friendly setting. It will be a first-class facility that emphasizes Mandaue as an emerging growth city.
Things can get really exciting from here not just for Mandauenons, but also for the residents of neighboring cities. Now, the people have something to look forward to in three to five years.
